Welcome...

Garrett McMakin is a handsome, eight year old boy living in a small town in Kentucky. Garrett has a rare congenital condition known as Optic Nerve Hypoplasia (ONH). This rare condition, has left Garrett with around a 20/1000 eyesight because of his optic nerve. His endocrine system is also affected, leaving him with a daily schedule of medications to take. Since Garrett was diagnosed at three months of age, and doctors have said that nothing can be done, he would be blind with no hope of recovery.

Recently, doctors in China began performing an innovative new treatment using the blood discarded after the birth of a child to restore sight in children like Garrett. This innovative transplant of stem cells, collected through the umbilical cord of afterbirth, has given other ONH children the ability to see.

We are asking for help from family, friends, and our communities. We can use anything you are able to donate. Please help us meet our goal of $40,000 and send Garrett to China to give him the chance to see. With your help this beautiful child can be lucky enough to get the priceless gift of sight.

Sincerely,
 Tom, Jennifer, Garrett,
 and Whitlee McMakin
