Prayers Answered?
For more than eight years now, we have prayed to find something to help our son. Then we came across an article on the internet about a girl in Missouri who went to China for stem cell transplants who also has ONH.
We did further research because of all the controversy around stem cells here in the United States. Come to find out, these stem cells come from umbilical cord blood. This is blood that is just discarded after births but is rich with stem cells. The side effects are not any where near what they are with embryonic stem cells and fetuses are not dying for them. How wonderful! Why do we not have this in the United States?? Well, politics plays a huge part in that and also the FDA. Some umbilical cord transplants are done in the states if the government approves them, but ONH is not one of them.
So far at least 10 children from the United States have had the transplants and they have had a 100% success rate. Granted their vision is not 20/20, but it has improved drastically. One little girl has gone from only a small amount of light perception, to being able to see the details of her mother’s face!! Her vision has improved 800% in 5 months from having her first treatment!
